About: Georges Bizet's Carmen
The story is set in Seville, Spain, about 1830. Carmen is a beautiful Gypsy with a fiery temper. Free with her love, she tells the soldiers that love obeys no known laws. Only one man pays no attention to her – the corporal Don José. Carmen throws a flower at him and wins his love. Later, Carmen is arrested for fighting, but Don Jose allows her to escape and he himself is arrested. Their relationship leads to his rejection of his former girlfirend, Micaela, and finally to fall in with a gang of smugglers.
Carmen's attention turns to the bullfighter Escamillo, and she taunts Don Jose, arousing his jealousy. While Carmen helps the smugglers, Micaela appears and convinces Don Jose to visit his dying mother, but his attraction to Carmen remains and he returns to Seville. While the crowd is heard cheering Escamillo, José tries to prevent Carmen from joining her new lover. Carmen finally loses her temper, takes from her finger the ring that José once gave her, and throws it at his feet. José stabs her, and then confesses to the murder of the woman he loved.
