The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association Announces The Relocation Of The Annual Balloon Rodeo
Bald Eagle Lake will showcase the natural beauty of the Yampa Valley

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO—The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association has named Bald Eagle Lake as the new location for the Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo which is scheduled for July 7-8, 2007.  The field is located south of Steamboat Springs at 35565 South Highway 40, 9/10 mile south of the Walton Creek traffic light.

“We are very excited to find a location in the middle of our beautiful Yampa Valley,” said Sandy Evans Hall, executive vice president of Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association.  “Visitors and local residents alike will experience the natural beauty of the valley and its surrounding mountains, a perfect backdrop to what is already a picturesque event.”

Bald Eagle Lake is owned by Ed MacArthur and is the location of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s water ramps used for freestyle skiing practice in the summer months. His property is about 90 acres in size that includes the 16-acre lake, wetlands, and a section of the Yampa River and 8-acres of dry pasture which will serve as the launch field.   The field has views of Mt. Werner and Emerald Mountain.

In addition to its aesthetic qualities the new location will also allow balloon pilots more open space for flying and landing.

“Our number one priority is pilot safety,” said Matt Windt special events director for the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. “This area is more open and therefore safer for pilots than the previous location.”

This year’s event will be the 27th running of the Balloon Rodeo.  Admission to the event is free.  There is no parking available at Bald Eagle Lake; traffic is limited to balloon pilots, vendors and staff only.  Free parking will be available at the Meadows Parking Lot.  Shuttles from the Meadows Parking Lot will also be available on both event days.

Pedestrian and bike traffic are also encouraged.  The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is working with the Colorado Department of Transportation and Routt County officials to ensure a safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists commuting to the event.

“We expect this location will insure the longevity of this event,” said Evans Hall.  “It is a hallmark of summer in Steamboat Springs.”
