Labor Day Weekend in Steamboat Springs features vintage aircraft and cars, Pro Bull Riding and the new Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge

WANTED: Airplane enthusiasts, car buffs, rodeo fans, dog lovers, hikers, bikers and so much more!

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO - There's more than one way to celebrate the traditional end of summer, and Steamboat Springs has a weekend full of choices.  This year's Labor Day weekend celebration combines the return of the Wild West Air Fest with a Circus Chimera, Steamboat Stock Dog Trials, Rocky Mountain Bull Bash Pro Bull Riding and more events and activities to boot.

"This year's Labor Day Weekend continues to gain altitude with the return of the Wild West Air Fest and more events," said Sandy Evans Hall, executive vice president of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association.  "There's an event for everyone and plenty of activities to squeeze in before saying farewell to summer."

Wild West Air Fest
The Wild West Air Fest will feature up to 25 aircraft from WWII era vintage to newly designed and recently FAA approved. Bi-plane and helicopter rides will be available as well.  This interactive exhibit will be complimented by two remote control aircraft shows each day that spectators will not want to miss.  In addition to vintage planes, the Steamboat Springs Car Club is back by popular demand and will have a variety of vintage cars on display.

"This is a unique event in that unlike other air shows, attendees can get up close and personal with the aircraft and meet the pilots," said Evans Hall. "Airplane enthusiasts as well as families just cannot stop raving about this event."

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Bob Adams Airport at the west end of town.  Admission is only $5 for adults and $2 for children 6-16. Children 5 and under are free.  Spectators will receive the 2006 Commemorative Wild West Air Fest button with admission.

New for Labor Day Weekend! The Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge
For someone who has never seen a dog trial this event is a must.  Returning to Steamboat and moved from Memorial Day Weekend, the 2006 Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge will thrill spectators as fifty of the "smartest dogs in the world" show off their skills.  Dogs and handlers from across the country will compete in field events Sunday and Monday September 3 and 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Stanko Ranch 3.5 miles west of Steamboat Springs.  Admission is free. Please leave dogs at home.
