In 2006, our guest speaker was Kathy Zawadzki. Kathy's coaching career began over fifteen years ago and encompasses all levels of athletes, including juniors, masters, Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Her expertise in sports science brought her to the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to work with the Sports Science Division where she worked with USA Cycling and USA Triathlon to help develop Olympic athletes. She currently works with Carmichael Training Systems, a premier web-based coaching company. Kathy beliefs that although a scientifically based training program is essential to achieving athletic success, coaching is also about inspiring and motivating an individual to achieve their goals. In addition to coaching individual cyclists and triathletes, her coaching experience covers regional, national and international team competitions, including Head Cycling Coach for 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney and the 2003 Tour of Hope. Kathy’s background in exercise science lead to her interest in sports nutrition; fueling the athlete is just as important as training the athlete! Kathy worked with Chris Carmichael, coach of seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Pinnacol AssuranceArmstrong, to write Food for Fitness: Eat Right to Train Right, which was published in the summer of 2004. Kathy holds a masters degree in Exercise Science and is a certified Health and Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine. She also is a licensed USA Cycling Level I coach and Sports Nutritionist. She resides in Littleton, CO.

Confirmation:
A confirmation will be e-mailed or mailed to participants upon receipt of paid entry. Please do not call us to verbally confirm your registration. You must have your e-mail or post card confirmation at packet pick-up. You can also check our web site for a list of confirmed runners. We will be updating our web site with a list of confirmed runner regularly. If you have misplaced your email confirmation, please be prepared to show a photo ID to pick up your bib. Click here to view the list of registered runners for the 2006 races Please be patient if you don't see your name on there right away, our turnaround time is about two weeks once we recieve a registration form and then post the updated registered runners list online.

Registration Transfers:
We allow runners to “transfer” their bibs to another person if they’re unable to run. We will not have a waiting list. To post a message to buy or sell a bib, you can go to www.craigslist.com, then go to "Denver" on the right hand side of the screen, "for sale" in the middle of the screen, then "sporting". We strongly discourage runners from buying or selling half marathon bibs for more than $45, the cost of the half marathon. It is the runner’s responsibility to find someone to buy/transfer their bib. We will not be able to help people find buyers. Click here to download a transfer form.

Once you’ve made contact with someone who wants to buy your bib, please follow these guidelines:
1. The financial transaction for the entry fee and exchange of entry confirmation card is strictly between the transferring runner and the person with the entry. We strongly discourage runners from buying or selling half marathon bibs for more than $45, the cost of the half marathon.
2. A transfer/new runner must send in a completed Transfer Registration form with a valid runners confirmation card or email, and a check for $10 for the transfer fee to:
Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association
Attn: Marathon Transfer
P.O. Box 774408
Steamboat Springs, CO 80477
3. Transfers for race entries will be accepted if postmarked on or before Friday, May 26, 2006
4. Transfers will not be processed at bib pickup. No exceptions.
5. Please check the Steamboat Marathon web site registered runners list before the race to confirm that your transfer went through.

The deadline for transfers is Friday, May 26th. All transfer forms must be postmarked by this date in order to be processed. Any transfer form received after May 26th will be returned. Please know that it is strongly discouraged for runners to buy or sell bibs for more than $45, the cost of the half marathon. The reason we created the transfer program was to move away from the wait list which was not effective. Often wait listed runners wouldn't find out till the week of or the day before the race that the were confirmed to run the half marathon. Please note: Most bibs won't come available for sale until May when people discover the are injured or have another obligation.

Packet Pickup:
Race packets must be picked up at Christy Sports, across from City Market in the Central Park Plaza in Steamboat Springs. Race packets will not be mailed or delivered to local hotels. There is no race day packet pick up. All packets must be picked up at the below times.
Friday June 2, 12:00-5:00pm
Saturday June 3, 10:00-5:00pm

Please email marathon@steamboatchamber.com if you have any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I bring my baby stroller any of the race courses?
No, because of all the other runners on the street and the fact that we are running on county roads with local traffic, it’s unsafe and not recommended to have baby strollers on the course. Also, the baby strollers don’t fit through the finish line shoots.

May I bring my dog or headphones/walkmans?
No, because of all the other runners on the street and the fact that we are running on county roads with local traffic, it’s unsafe and not recommended to bring your headsets or pets.

Is it okay for my friend, parent or spouse to ride their bike along side me while I run?
We strongly advise against it. The roads are technically still open to all traffic but we would prefer that you there were no bikes on the course. There are long traffic delays and a lot of pressure from local traffic and all the runners on the road at the same time. For safety considerations we ask that everyone leave their bikes at home.

Where’s the best place for my family and friends to watch me run?
Anywhere along Lincoln Avenue or at the finish line at the courthouse lawn on Lincoln Avenue. There will be places to park and plenty of places to watch the runners coming in to the finish.

Is the Steamboat Marathon a Boston Marathon qualifying race?
Yes, because our course is USATF (USA Track and Field) certified, our race is a Boston qualifier.

If I find that I can’t run for whatever reason, may I transfer my bib number to my friend?
Yes, again this year, we’re allowing runners to “transfer” their numbers to another person. Please check the section above titled "Registration transfer." Once you’ve made contact with someone who wants to buy your bib, please follow these guidelines:

  1. The financial transaction for the entry fee and exchange of entry confirmation card is strictly between the transferring runner and the person with the entry.
  2. A transfer runner must send in a completed Transfer Registration form with a valid runners confirmation card or email, and a check for $10 for the transfer fee to:
    Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association
    Attn: Marathon Transfer
    P.O. Box 774408
    Steamboat Springs, CO 80477
  3. Transfers for race entries will be accepted if postmarked on or before May 25, 2006
  4. Transfers will not be processed at bib pickup. No exceptions.
  5. Please check the Steamboat Marathon web site before the race to confirm that your transfer went through.

Now that the half marathon is full, can I get my name on the wait list?
We no longer have a wait list. Based on previous years experience, we're finding that the wait list doesn't work well. Often runners have to wait until the week of or the day before the race to get a confirmed entry. Now that we are allowing people to transfer their bibs there will be less bibs coming available because they will be transferred from one runner to another. We only accept runners off the wait list if another runner drops out and lets us know.

I just found out I’m pregnant and can’t run, what can I do?
For pregnancies we allow women to carry over their registration payment to use for the 2007 race. Please mail or email your race confirmation to marathon@steamboatchamber.com and we will reassign your bib number. It is the runner’s responsibility to re-register in 2007. We will not automatically register you for the next year’s race. You will need to fax in a registration form to the Chamber for the 2007 race and make a note that you’re a carry over from 2006. We can not process any carry over registrations on active.com, nor will we refund any registration fees.

Is my registration fee refundable?
No. Entry fees are not refundable. There are no exceptions.

What if I can’t make it to packet pick-up?
Please make every possible effort to pick up your packet during our scheduled packet pick-up times. There will be no race day packet pick-up. You can have a friend pick up your packet for you, but they must have your e-mail or postcard confirmation.

Who did this year's artwork?
A local artist, Steamboat's very own R.C. Dieckhoff. R.C. was the artist for our 20th Annual race and we asked him back for our 25th Anniversary. He created this original piece of art especially for us which encompasses the whole Marathon and Half Marathon course from Hahns Peak to the finish in downtown Steamboat Springs. We will be selling t-shirts and posters with this design the weekend of the races. Framable prints of this piece and other R.C. creations can be purchased at Christy Sports when you pick up your race packets or at Steamboat Art Company on Lincoln Avenue.
