From the time of the Utes and other Native American peoples through the periods of Euroamerican settlement, this area has played host to a remarkable diversity of cultures, traditions, and colorful characters. As in any place and time, the pathways chosen by a community--and the outcomes which result--are shaped by a few individuals and groups whose visions can lay out the future of the community. By recognizing and supporting those that lead us to an ecologically, economically, and culturally sustainable future we help to grow and sustain these practices in our community. These leaders are our "New Pioneers." Recognizing those who show exemplary stewardship of our community will spread their ideas, actions, and values.
